Bookbinding Methods

Bookbinding methods can vary from each other by type and style, from a regular stapler to a Chinese bamboo scroll, from modern soft paper cover bookbinding to a time-tested hand-sawing and hardcover books.

Here at LaPulia Studio, we have developed our type and style of bookbinding. To give our customers the top quality product we start with the high-quality materials.

To Achieve that high quality bookbinding, we select to use only archival grade acid-free materials; 1) we use parchment or cotton paper for printing that will not yellow, crack or tarnish with age, 2) most modern printing technologies that will stay bright and colorful for many years to come and will be as vivid as the first day it were printed, 3) for sewing we only use specially treated linen thread with the highest tensile strength possible, so it will not break over time and the years of extensive use.

The second part of the process is bookbinding method so strong and durable that we guarantee it to last for many generations to come.

We take the highest quality Davy book board which provides flexibility as well as the sturdiness. After we cut it to the desired size, we double layer it with non-toxic glue and 100% linen garment. This process makes the book cover so strong it becomes impossible to rip or cut, even with the sharpest saw, yet at the same time, it’s flexible enough to be bound in top-quality leather.

We hand pick every piece of leather from our supplier, which gives us an opportunity to get the top choice from every pallet.

At LaPulia Studio we offer you a choice of two binding methods:

  1. HARD BINDING: provides you with a beautiful design where pages are sewn together just like in any traditionally bound book. At the end of the book, we will give you some blank pages, that way you can add to your book whatever your desire later on.
  2. POST BINDING: gives you same beautiful design and at the same time the flexibility to move pages around within the book as well as add or remove some. To give you this flexibility we use only steel or brass bookbinding posts that are known for its durability and long life.
